The Community Foundation at Hometown Days
For decades, Community Foundation supporters and Board members have been a key part of Hometown Days (visit external site), the city-wide celebration dating back to the 1980s. Whether marching in the parade or manning a booth to showcase the work of local nonprofits, our commitment to the community is clear.
A Focus on Community and Culture
Last year, the Community Foundation collaborated with the City of San Carlos to elevate local talent and showcase the diverse traditions and histories of people who live, work, play, and learn in our "City of Good Living."
Our 2025 Community Stage, held in the Youth Center gym, featured an incredible lineup:
Music and Vocal Talent: Local singers, the rhythmic beats of high school drummers (from Carlmont and Sequoia), smooth jazz ensembles, harmonious youth choirs led by Emily Bender and Sara Murphy, and opera singer Avanthika Swaminathan.
Dance: Graceful performances by young artists from the Coastside Dance School, Heartbeat Academy, and Dance Expressions, as well as lively traditional dances from Casa Circulo, the San Carlos Sitaras, and the Adult Community Center’s Frequency of Apple dance troop.
Theater: Youthful performers from the San Carlos Children’s Theater and the charming Broadway Babies delighted audiences.
International Artistry: Attendees experienced the exquisite artistry of a visiting calligrapher from our Sister City, Omura, Japan.
Building Bridges for 2026 and Beyond
With the Community Foundation’s support, the 2026 Hometown Days Main Stages will incorporate this diverse array of performers, representing the rich traditions of all who call San Carlos home.
This effort directly aligns with our mission: to build bridges and foster community by hosting events that recognize and honor the diverse history and cultural traditions of everyone in San Carlos. Over the years, we have sponsored programs and performances to celebrate AANHPI Month (May 2023) and recognized the rich tapestry of our community with Latino Heritage Month banners on Laurel Street.
As we look forward to 2026, the Foundation will continue to fulfill its goal of building community together so that everyone can experience a true sense of belonging.
