Strengthening the Week of the Family
Official Sponsor of Week of the Family
This year, the Community Foundation of San Carlos officially partnered with the beloved Week of the Family as it’s fiscal sponsor.
A Bit of History
The Week of the Family originated in 2000, proposed by council member Don Eaton to bring families and community members together. Early events focused on school-age children, featuring a movie night, family history night, and a "passport" to various city venues.
Looking Ahead
Over the years, the event has evolved, mirroring our changing understanding of what "makes" a family. Last year’s celebration broadened its reach, inviting all community members to find an activity that suited their interests and ages. The diverse lineup included:
Game and trivia nights
Pub and wine crawls
A robotics demonstration
Youth service projects
History walks and a scavenger hunt
A Family Bike Faire and ride
The value of this program is clear: hundreds of local residents come out each year, even during the often-stormy week at the end of January, to join these homegrown, volunteer-led activities.
The Community Foundation's Enhanced Commitment
In the past, the Foundation’s engagement with the Week of the Family was focused on supporting the Family Bike Faire and Fun Ride.
This year, we are proud to announce that we are strengthening our partnership by becoming the Week of the Family’s fiscal sponsor. This essential support ensures that the energetic volunteers can continue to plan and host the incredible line-up of activities that bring our community closer together.
Especially in times when social ties feel frayed, the Week of the Family connects people, fostering a sense of community through simple activities, shared learning, and acts of service to others.
