Have you ever wondered how the Community Foundation of San Carlos decides which local non-profits to support?

It’s not a secret algorithm or a mysterious committee in a smoke-filled room. It’s your neighbors.

Last year (2024-25), we provided 16 grants to local San Carlos organizations doing vital work right here in our city, and as the cycle begins again, we're thrilled to have received 37 applications. The meticulous process of reviewing these applications falls to our volunteer Grant Readers: a remarkable group of San Carlos residents who lend their time and considerable expertise to the task.

Who are these civic-minded folks?

They are, quite simply, the heart of our community.

They are philanthropic executives, retired psychologists, and former school librarians who have spent decades nurturing our city’s youth.

They are parents who have volunteered in our schools, from Arundel to Carlmont, and who still frequent Laurel Street to support local businesses.

They bring experience from the worlds of healthcare, real estate, and technology, with analytical skills honed at places like Apple and Genentech.

Some have even served on the City Council or managed million-dollar giving programs. This incredible blend of professional acumen and personal passion for San Carlos ensures that every grant awarded is a thoughtful investment in the city we all love.
