Friends for Youth
Transitioning into middle school and high school is difficult for kids who lack adult support, leading to academic, behavioral, and emotional health struggles. Friends for Youth empowers young people to navigate these challenges with 1-to-1 and peer group mentorships with trusted adult mentors. Mentorship equips youth with social and emotional tools and positive connections, successfully reducing school dropout rates and steering kids away from the juvenile justice system and drug use.
Since 2022, the Community Foundation of San Carlos has granted Friends for Youth $22,500, with $5,000 awarded in 2024. Funds support mentorship sessions at twenty-five school and community partner sites and the addition of thirty 1-to-1 mentoring matches. Friends for Youth also plans to expand their reach with two new program coordinators.
San Carlos residents support Friends for Youth’s mission by contributing their time as youth mentors and making financial contributions. Learn how you can make a difference in the lives of local youth here.
